Tahingamanu Courtyard House

The Tahingamanu Courtyard House is an architectural home designed for a client who is family-oriented and seeks both social engagement and moments of inner peace. Surrounded by the suburban neighbourhood, the central courtyard is a centre-piece of the home, a gestural invitation after a long hike and a private oasis of natural fauna and the afternoon sun.

The two-storey dwelling is meticulously designed to be future-proof with strong consideration for inter-generational living, sufficient space for a growing family and a spacious living area for weekend family gatherings. While the spaces are encompassed by a humbled, rectilinear form, a tall mono-pitched roof perks over the building, taking shape of a sail which shelters a playful look-out area. The façade is presented with a dark-stained timber rainscreen obscuring the interior drama from the wider environment.
