Matarua House is a thoughtfully designed 2-storey dwelling tailored to accommodate a young family comprising a couple and their one-year-old child occasionally frequented by family and friends. The architectural concept revolves around the notion of duality, as reflected in the name ‘Matarua’, meaning double edge.

With sustainability in mind, the project targeted to attain a Homestar certification. To reduce and better manage energy usage, LED lights are used for all fixtures, while all exterior light sources are motion-triggered. Features such as EV chargers, and energy-efficient heatpumps have been incorporated into the design in a bid to lower carbon emissions. Multiple transportation modes have been considered in the design of the garage by accommodating wall-mounted bike racks.
