Situated along an arterial road, the Beach Terraces confronts a sloped site by translating the terrain into a series of undulating roofs.
At the frontage, verticality is attenuated by a north-facing raked openings, offering exposure and daylight to the interior. The facade is complemented by metal fins arranged at various intervals to mimic wave patterns of the immediate, Browns Bay beach, contrasted by a modest, natural composition of materials to detract unwanted attention and blend with the surrounding character.
As a humbled enclosure and an urban refuge within suburbia, the rowhouses are a reconnection to nature and joins fragments of the context’s purity.
